Potatoes are like friends in the kitchen. They make excellent dishes on their own and pair fabulously well with almost any vegetable and meat. They are a blessing for many mothers of kids with fussy food habits as usually kids like potatoes more easily than other veggies.
Adults are not very different either. They enjoy potatoes as snacks, starters, main course, fast food or even in mashed form … name the dish and it will be waved a big green flag.
Here are some simple potato dishes that can be made at home.
Cooked in good amount of jeera and other Indian spices, this is one of the easiest dishes one can make. Top it with some coriander and green chillies and have it with rotis or pooris. Having it with simple bread too tastes just as fine.
Aloo with other vegetables
Potatoes are very simple in nature that way; they can be combined with half a dozen vegetables – Cauliflower, cabbage, ladyfinger, fenugreek, brinjal to name a few. This not makes the vegetable interesting on an otherwise dull day but also increases the quantity if the portion sizes required are more.
If you are in the mood of having an exotic version of aloo, indulge in the Kashmiri speciality of Dum aloo. Made in onion, tomato and cashew paste, this is a dish popular worldwide.
It would be unfair to point out one version, as every family/ household would have their own ways of making potato curry. Some make in the onion – tomato paste, some in coconut base, either way they taste awesome and go amazingly well with parathas and rice.
Aloo Mattar Paneer
Planning on a party for vegetarians? Delight them with these three awesome ingredients – Aloo, mattar and paneer. Toss and cook them all together in any gravy of your choice. Most vegetarians love potatoes and paneer, so a combination like this is exciting.
Aloo bonda/ vada/ pakora (fritters)
We instantly crave for these fried delights on the day of rains (especially the first shower) or when the temperatures dip. They are amazing snacks, which add to the warmth during our tea times. Have them with green, sweet or spicy chutney or simply sandwich them between bread or vada. They are very delicious and flavourful. 🙂 😀 😎
